Protectivei or decorative final coatings

Each coating is exposed to the influences of the environment it comes in contact with. The influence of the environment on FP is repercussed on the durability of the coating and thus on its reaction in case of fire.

If there is a need to apply a final coating over PP, this is done for two reasons: either to protect the FP coating from the destructive effects of the environment or for decorative reasons.. In both cases, it is important to choose a coating that will preserve all the characteristics of FP or preserve the ability to expand FP at elevated temperatures, forming an insulating protective layer that takes time to protect the metal profile from heating to critical temperature.

The final coating should be specified in accordance with the expected life of the system and environmental conditions..

FLAMEX is a water-based coating made according to modern ecological standards and as such can be endangered by the action of a chemically aggressive environment or conditions of extremely high humidity.

Various degradation-destructive factors have an impact on the longevity of fire-fighting products:

  • Temperature
  • Frosting/defrosting
  • Humidity (water steam)
  • Water/rain
  • Exposure to UV radiation
  • Pollution (e.g.. for industrial areas: high levels of SO2, H2S and NOx; high levels of chloride and other halogens)
  • Action of microorganisms; consequences

Notice:

FLAMEX can be applied in high humidity, semi-exposed or exposed conditions, if it is protected with a suitable top coat (depending on weather conditions). Contact the manufacturer for appropriate protection.

Before applying the final coating, it is recommended that the contractor make sure that the projected dry film thickness PP has been reached.. The surface of the fire protection coating must be clean and dry before the final coating is applied over it.

We recommend that the top coat be based on the following binders:

  • alkyd (high humidity conditions)
  • acrylic (half exposure)
  • polyurethane (presence of chemical agents)
  • epoxy (combined effects)

The DSF of the top coat should not be more than 70 microns.

If you have doubts about the compatibility of the final coating with PP, it is necessary to do a compatibility / adhesion test or contact the manufacturer.
